Life Care Center of Punta Gorda, Florida, recently earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The CMS ratings system is designed to assist the public in choosing care for their loved ones. It calculates the ratings based on results of health inspections, staffing and quality measures (including pain management, pressure ulcers, weight loss and falls).
On Halloween, rehab departments at Life Care’s centers in Florida dressed up in an array of creative team costumes for the annual contest.
Participants included 13 out of 21 facilities in the division.
“The contest between facilities has been going on for almost five years,” said Tammy Whitehead, regional rehab director.
Life Care Center of Punta Gorda, Florida, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, recently achieved a deficiency-free state survey.
To pass the state survey each year, nursing facilities must meet hundreds of criteria. These address not only nursing care and resident safety, but also patients’ rights, food services, administration and the facility’s environment.
Dr. Vance Maloney, on-site physician at Life Care Center of Punta Gorda, was named Southeast Division Physician of the Year for Life Care Centers of America on April 9.
The award was given during a ceremony held at Life Care Center of Punta Gorda. The ceremony included facility staff. Six other divisional award winners and a company-wide winner were also honored earlier in the year at the American Medical Directors Association Annual Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
